sitting on guts

An old chair, commonly found in grandmothers’ gardens and porches in Greece back in the days, is re-invented through replacing the original thin plastic wires with lamb intestines, a traditional culinary treat widely used in Greek cuisine. When testing the chair in public, people would comfortably sit on this perfectly functional chair only to rush away when informed about its composition. Under the context of re-inventing everyday practices and rituals, I am experimenting with altering common domestic objects in order to recompose another domestic performativity, one that questions functionality and traditional perceptions of domesticity through reconfiguring materialities. Through disrupting commonly accepted norms and rituals, I attempt to introduce alternative performativities within the everyday in order to challenge and expand domestic experiences.
